Smart maintenance involves the application of advanced technologies to optimize the maintenance and maximize the runtime of manufacturing systems. In this course, students develop strategies to choose the optimal maintenance approach to improve equipment reliability and productivity, incorporating indicators such as machine availability, performance, and faulty-free production time. Through a systemic approach, students resolve machinery fault stations and generate preventative maintenance plans. Condition Monitoring is the foundation of smart maintenance which evaluates the health of machinery through monitoring and analysis of measured physical variables. Incorporating common methods of condition monitoring (i.e. thermal, vibration, power, and oil analysis), students design a basic IoT system to monitor the condition of equipment and use asset management software to evaluate and improve the productivity of a manufacturing system.
