Course Code: ANAT 108

Academic Year: 2026-2027

This course introduces Personal Support Worker students to the foundational structures and functions of the human body. Beginning with cells, tissues, and organ systems, students will develop a basic scientific vocabulary and apply medical terminology to describe normal body processes. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between structure and function, the effects of aging, and common conditions that may impact clients across the lifespan. Students will explore how body systems interact to maintain homeostasis, and how alterations in health can affect activities of daily living. Through case examples and applied learning, students will practice observation and reporting skills that support safe, person-centred care. The course provides a bioscience foundation for clinical practice and prepares learners to recognize when changes in client health require further support from regulated health professionals.
