Drafting and Detailing: Adaptive Reuse & Addition

In this course, emphasis will be placed on expanding the student's understanding and knowledge of various kinds of building complexities pertaining to architectural design and technology, structural framing, construction details, building science issues and sustainable construction. Students will prepare working drawings and details for a given multi-use community centre complex that will involve alterations and retrofitting of an existing historical building and a new multi-level addition. Various construction complexities incorporated into this project will include interconnected floor spaces; underground shelter construction; barrier-free ramps; roof terraces and balconies; alteration and retrofitting work; expansion joints; flat- and sloped-roof systems; and skylights. Drawings must be prepared in metric units on REVIT Architecture, in compliance with the Ontario Building Code.
