Improvisation and Directing Actors

Students will learn improvisation techniques and how they can be applied to writing. Students will participate in exercises focusing on thinking on their feet, creating ideas, and improving existing scripts, as well as writing new material. The techniques explored will improve communication skills when dealing with actors, crew and collaborators. As the semester unfolds, participants will explore the interconnected roles between writer, director, and actor that shapes television and movie productions. Writers will learn different acting techniques and how to prep and workshop scenes as actors. They will apply the class exercises and their experience of acting fundamentals to create and put up dynamic and character-rich scenes. Each director will create a scene analysis from their own wok and direct a scene with actors in front of the class.
