This course introduces students to non-fiction storytelling including documentary and reality TV. It explores how to use elements and techniques of narrative screenplay writing in non-fiction application, from capturing real events to shaping unscripted moments. Students will have the opportunity to study concepts and stages of non-fiction filmmaking from conception through production and delivery. They will examine the proliferation of reality and documentary TV in the marketplace and the business side of pitching and executing non-fiction content. There will also be discussions surrounding ethical considerations and the impact on society through an examination of existing documentaries.
