Students work with the fundamentals of visual design for a variety of media. Students apply theoretical perspectives on the elements of design such as line, shape, contrast, colour, composition, visual hierarchy, space, texture and harmony. Students begin a regular practice of sketching, and gain experience with design software. They develop their expertise through producing original works for both print and digital formats, such as posters, album covers, mood boards, and website mock-ups. Other course topics include professional integrity, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity. The course includes practical labs that involve a series of hands-on assignments to create effective and aesthetically appealing visual designs.
