Prototyping for Discovery

Course Code: BDES 1502

Academic Year: 2024-2025

Prototyping is the iterative process of ideating, rapidly designing tangible models, trying them out, and revising the models in a repeating pattern, providing new insights each round. In this studio-based course, students start with a problem, generate creative ideas, build a prototype, then validate and test their ideas with other people in order to create the next improved version of the product. Students are immersed in design process and use design thinking methods to gain first-hand experience with the iterative and highly collaborative nature of design. The course demonstrates the benefits of build to think approaches to solving difficult problems, and cultivates an appreciation for the value of continuous feedback on projects.
