Course Code: BDES 2504

Academic Year: 2024-2025

Usability assessment methods provide valuable and direct insight into how real users use websites, software and other systems. In this course, students will gain familiarity with usability assessment methods, and gain an understanding of how and why usability assessment is critical to the design process. The methods and principles of usability testing, both inside and outside the formal lab, are demonstrated and applied. Students plan, recruit participants, moderate and analyze usability tests in Humber's unique mobile research studio, observing and recording the behavior of representative users. Issues of informed consent and other ethical issues are addressed. The course provides an opportunity to make meaningful improvements in the user experience of interactive projects based on evidence and informed analysis.
