This course begins with a brief introduction and overview of the general principles of chemistry as a science. Topics related to the atomic structure, chemical bonding, gases, and chemical reactions will be discussed. The second portion of the course will focus on application of chemical principles to the study of the environment including natural processes and pollution problems related to air, water, soil and building materials. The students will learn about the main contaminant of concerns inside and outside a building.
