Engaging with Diverse Communities

Course Code: BENG 2040

Academic Year: 2024-2025

Communities are diverse places, with multi-sectional groups coming together to create meaningful interactions. However, this can present a challenge for engineers; underrepresented groups can be excluded from project engagement, leading to inequalities in project outcomes. Through engagement of case studies and other learning activities, students in this course will foster an appreciation of diverse stakeholder experiences and develop skills for context-sensitive community engagement. This course builds on previously learned skills (problem defining, social impact analysis, and leadership skills), and continues to expand skillsets that are relevant to project management and engineering design.
