This course presents the business behind media arts and how content is created in Canada. Students develop media entrepreneurship skills in the overlapping creative content industries of film, television and digital media. Students explore the business landscape and identify regulations that media companies follow in order to grow sustainable small media businesses in Canada that produce fully-financed professional projects. Students analyze transmedia and cross-platform projects exploring all media rights exploitation to fully maximize revenue potential. They focus on public, private and alternate financing options and business models and prepare strategies for marketing and distribution. Students create an industry-standard business plan for their thesis projects including the necessary documentation for a pitch proposal for the creation of content within the context of media small business.
