This course is equivalent to MICR 3000 (BIOL 326) and offered to students as an entrance requirement for the Second Entry Nursing program.This course introduces students to the biology of micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and prions. These organisms will be studied in terms of their classification, physiology and distribution, with an emphasis placed on their medical significance. Epidemiology of infectious disease, including disease transmission, control procedures and body defence mechanisms, will also be studied.
