Biological research has been revolutionized in large part due to genomics and proteomics allowing for detailed characterization of the structure, organization, regulation and interaction of genes, proteins and small bioactive molecules in an organism. In this course students learn the fundamentals of genomics and proteomics as applied to the field of medical research and drug discovery. Students learn about the historical development of technology and its application in the field of modern 'Omics in order to appreciate technological advancements in the field. Students learn the concept of translational medicine using the biological systems information obtained from 'Omics to develop therapeutics and conduct other biomedical research.
