This course examines the fundamentals of manufacturing biologic medicines and how biopharmaceutical medicine is designed, tested, manufactured, and regulated. Students learn about methods of producing therapeutic proteins through engineered living cells; the effect of therapeutic protein modification on efficacy; reactors and their use to sustain the growth of engineered living cells that produce target therapeutics; biomanufacturing steps; regulated environment associated with biomanufacturing and biopharmaceuticals.
