This course examines the fundamentals of manufacturing biologic medicines and how biopharmaceutical medicine is designed, tested, manufactured, and regulated. Students learn about methods of producing therapeutic compounds through living cells, the effect of therapeutic protein modification on efficacy, bioreactors and their use to sustain the growth of cells that produce target therapeutics, biomanufacturing steps, and the regulatory environment associated with biomanufacturing and biopharmaceuticals.
