This course will provide a broad overview of business in Canada today and the environmental forces influencing the nature of organizations. Students will examine the purposes and activities of organizations of various types, sizes and structures and the interrelationship among functional areas within the organization. Students will study the dynamic relationships among business, government and labour and the nature and impact of competition. Students will use SWOT, PEST, Porter's Five Forces and other frameworks for analysis to establish the foundation of robust business strategies and competitive postures, including appropriate vision, mission, goals and objectives for a business.
