This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of what social policy is, how it is implemented through legislation and other delivery vehicles, as well as the impact that it has on individuals, families, communities and Canadian society at large. It will address the impact of globalization, the economy, ideology, and poverty on social policies as well as the policy making structures and processes that are used to develop them. A particular focus will be paid to community-based, inclusive approaches and strategies used to create and influence social policy. Models for social policy analysis will be presented and used to critically review current social policy issues.
