Transformative Pedagogies

Course Code: CDEV 3001

Academic Year: 2024-2025

Transformative Pedagogy (the art and science of teaching methods, with the goal of positive social change) plays a key role in Community Development efforts such as outreach, workshops and teach-ins, and advocacy campaigns for consciousness raising and action planning. In this course, students will explore and experience a variety of transformative pedagogies, such as critical pedagogy, feminist pedagogy, queer pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy and popular education, and explore the ways in which these pedagogies enable individuals and communities to share experience, and promote resistance and empowerment. Additionally, this course will equip students with the tools to design and facilitate transformational educational processes with communities to analyze and address the issues they face.
