Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation

Course Code: CDEV 3503

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This course will explore gender identity and sexual orientation though an intersectional approach that will challenge students to explore their own personal identities and biases. Students will learn about sexual movements, historical achievements, and contemporary campaigns against discrimination as forms of resistance to systemic violence. An anti-oppressive framework will provide students with skills to identify intersectional experiences of the LGBTQI2S+ community and multiple layers of oppression. Using case examples from Stonewall to Gay Pride, effective strategies of resistance and community building will be discussed.
