Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Organizing

This course will provide students with foundational knowledge of Indigenous teachings, stories, cultural and traditional practices. Principles and concepts that inform Indigenous thought and knowledge will be discussed and students will explore Indigenous ways of seeing, relating, thinking, and doing to inform their own approaches to community work. Indigenous case examples of resistance, advocacy and community capacity building will be studied to understand how to decolonize approaches to community work, disrupt racism and embrace Indigenous ways of knowing more broadly in daily practice.
