Course Code: CDEV 4505
Academic Year: 2026-2027
This is the second of two courses that will support students to apply and integrate their skills and knowledge in the creation of a capstone community research project. Students will undertake a research project approved by their faculty advisor and the Ethical Review Board. Participatory methods/techniques will be used in the implementation of the study. Collaborative relationships with community stakeholders will be fostered to ensure the research is meaningful and community centered. Data will be collected, analyzed and interpreted with consideration given to building upon current theories and practices in the field or offering new ideas that promote innovation in the sector. Students will write a group final report, which outlines research findings, limitations and recommendations for future community practice. Student groups will produce a research poster, and community partners and peers will be invited to engage with the capstone work and outcomes. Students will also write an individual research journal article that explores one research finding in depth and discusses how this contributes to community development theory and practice.
