Computer Systems Administration

This course focuses on the principle, theory and practicalities of system administration on Linux based systems. At the system level, learners will focus on items, such as account management, system service management, file systems and operating system installation and configuration. At the server level, learners will focus on items such as installation and configuration of server applications (e.g. SSH, SFTP, Samba, apache, mail), backup policies and maintenance of firewalls and print servers. Students will investigate the characteristics of an open-source Linux operating system (e.g. Fedora, Ubuntu).
