This course will introduce students to the values, principles and methods that guide Restorative Justice practices. Students will explore concepts of justice through both the retributive lens and restorative lens and apply these to real life case studies and circle facilitation. Key components including community, reparation, voice, shame, healing and forgiveness will be explored and linked to work in the field of community justice services and the broader continuum of social justice. Students will have the opportunity to develop and enhance essentials skill sets through the facilitation of circles. Students will critically examine the values, principles and methods of Restorative Justice through the use of a Restorative Justice yardstick and the application of this yardstick to the delivery of a community justice program.
