This course is designed to introduce students to the theoretical and practical aspects of working with young people, and/or families, who are experiencing difficulties associated with substance use. Beginning by reviewing the context of adolescent substance abuse, the course includes an overview and examination of various substance categorizations (drugs and behavioural), interventions currently used in Canada, and an exploration of the prevention and treatment continuum in Canada.
