Global Issues and Social Justice

Course Code: CRIM 4505

Academic Year: 2024-2025

In an increasingly interconnected world, issues that appear very far away at one moment can be very close to home the next. To prepare for such situations, we will examine the fight for social justice around the globe, with a particular focus on the role of criminal justice institutions in advancing and resisting change. Issues addressed throughout include mass incarceration, the promotion of racial hatred and terror, refugees, modern slavery, femicide, legal impunity, and the rise of autonomous killing technologies. Emphasis will be placed on exploring current events that will affect students both as employed professionals, as well as global citizens.
