Experiences of Marginalization and Criminalization

Course Code: CRIM 4506

Academic Year: 2023-2024

Building on Systemic Discrimination and Crime (CRIM 4006), this course provides students with a deeper understanding of historical and current inequities that perpetuate marginalization and criminalization of individuals and communities. Through inclusiveness and critical reflexivity, the course utilizes anti-colonial and decolonizing, anti-Native and Indigenous racism, anti-racism, anti-Black racism, anti-oppression, intersectionality, feminist, queer, and cis/sexism, disability, and equity to draw attention to the praxis. The course will further draw attention to current social resistance movements, activism, and allyship to disrupt the discourse and shift the current procedures to reflect the voices of equity-seeking individuals, groups, and communities.
