Family Dynamics

This course builds foundational knowledge about families from a strengths-based Child and Youth Care perspective. It includes an overview of current theories in family dynamics from a systemic and developmental viewpoint. Students will consider systems and ecological theories, identify stages of family development and transitions, and analyze the roles of family structure, communication patterns, culture, ethnicity, and multigenerational influences in family functioning. Students will also apply course concepts in relation to their own experience and evaluate concepts in relation to their own personal and professional growth.
