This course deals with the diagnosis, classification, primary causes and treatment of psychological disorders in children, adolescents and young adults. Students develop an understanding of symptoms, prevalence, incident rates and target groups of each disorder. Additionally, the course encourages a critical look at societal and personal views of what is classified as normal versus abnormal behaviour. Students are given the opportunity to discuss and develop relevant child and youth care interventions and strategies related to the course material and internship experiences. This course is a prerequisite for CYC 324.
