This course has two modules. Module one explores the role of Child and Youth Care practitioners working with families and builds on the knowledge from CYC 212 Family Dynamics. Through various in class activities students will strengthen their skills in developing collaborative partnerships with caregivers that promotes competence and problem solving within the family system.The second module focuses on substance use and addictions. The student will learn about Harm Reduction, the stages of change, the continuum of use and understanding dependence. Current drug information, intervention and prevention strategies and the impact of addiction on families will also be discussed.
