Psychology of Mental Health and Illness 2

This course is designed to build on CYC 213 and to explore specific disorders and aspects of mental health and illness. Students learn theoretical and diagnostic categories of specific, complex disorders such as schizophrenia, eating disorders, sleep disorders, mood and anxiety disorders. Every attempt is made to develop critical thinking regarding child and youth care practice with labelled populations. Stigma and the implications in child and youth care practice is analyzed under several theoretical models, and students are encouraged to explore their own style while linking theory and practice.
