This hands-on component of the course will build on the first mandatory practitcum by allowing the student to scan more complex forms of congenital or acquired heart disease in a completely different setting. This work integrated learning opportunity will allow the student to work with a sonographer supervisor learning a separate way of obtaining images, providing preliminary reports to the Cardiologist, and using different brands or models of ultrasound machine. This will give the student exposure to different environments, reporting systems and ultrasound machines and to different protocols used by medical facilities while scanning cardiac patients.
