Responding to Abuse

This course will explore the nature of abuse towards people of all ages in our society. Students will develop a greater awareness of the vulnerability of people with developmental disabilities and the latest best practices and approaches related to the prevention of and response to abuse towards this population. The course will focus on a variety of forms of abuse, including family violence and abuse in support and care environments. Particular emphasis will be on the detection, prevention and reporting of abuse specific to the role of the Developmental Service Worker in accordance with the current legislation. Students will also learn to train, educate, and empower those they support related to the prevention, recognition, and reporting of all forms of abuse.
