Course Code: EAPA 102
Academic Year: 2022-2023
This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. This course focuses on helping students build English-language competencies and study skills, as applied to academic contexts, at a high basic level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, A1.2). Students continue to develop a basic ability to understand and use English (Humber EAP Can-Do Framework, level 2). They do this by focusing on oral and aural individual and interactive practices, integrating language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and related systems (vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar) around personal and academic topics commonly used in Canadian post-secondary institutions. Examples of target tasks and activities include: describing objects and people, giving and following directions, expressing likes and dislikes, listening to short conversations and descriptions, taking notes for answering questions, engaging in conversations, presenting information on familiar topics.
