Academic Year: 2022-2023

This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. It focuses on helping students improve their English-language competence and study skills, as applied to academic contexts, at the low-intermediate level (Common European Framework of Reference for Language A2).This language-skill course focuses more specifically on the development of oral and aural academic communication skills. As such, students focus on listening for main ideas and supporting details, recognizing relationships between lecture parts and ideas, recognizing speech markers that build coherence in lectures, and note-taking. Further, students engage in an interview project, which culminates in an oral class presentation. Students are responsible for completing two independent listening logs.
