Course Code: EAPI 101
Academic Year: 2022-2023
This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. This course focuses on helping students build English-language competencies and study skills, as applied to academic contexts, at an introductory basic level (Common European Framework of Reference for Language, A1.1). Students develop a basic ability to understand and use English (Humber EAP Can-Do Framework, level 1). They do this through interactive and individual practices integrating language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and related systems (vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar) around personal and academic topics commonly used in Canadian post-secondary institutions. Examples of target tasks and activities include: greeting others and introducing self, reading and writing short narrative texts, drawing and explaining a family tree, describing people, hobbies, and routines, reading and responding to short texts.
