Course Code: EAPI 105
Academic Year: 2022-2023
This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. It focuses on helping students improve their English-language competence and study skills, as applied to academic contexts, at the intermediate level (Common European Framework of Reference for Language B1). This integrated language skills course focuses on the continued development of academic study skills within the program stream. Students focus on the continued development of reading strategies by comprehending and analyzing reading texts, using context clues for vocabulary, outlining, paraphrasing and summarizing ideas. Students also write and edit well-developed extended process (instructional) paragraphs. To support the development of their vocabulary, reading and writing strategies, students work with various multimodal resources in order to discuss and apply the ideas presented in these texts.
