Integrated Language Skills 8

Course Code: EAPI 108

Academic Year: 2022-2023

This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. It focuses on helping students improve their English-language competence and study skills, as applied to academic contexts, at the low-advanced level (Common European Framework of Reference for Language B2). The course employs videos of authentic lectures delivered to live professional and academic audiences, along with related transcripts and readings. The meaning, language, style, and implications of these texts are examined in detail in class through listening, note taking, explanation, discussion, information transfer, and text-manipulation exercises. Students are responsible for studying related academic vocabulary. Students respond to the lectures in essays on related topics. Students also engage in an independent examination of their intended program of study following graduation from EAP.
