Communication Circuits

Course Code: ELIC 220

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This is an introductory course to RF (radio frequency) circuits and systems. The students start with learning the basic building blocks of radio (tuned RF amplifiers, oscillators, modulators, mixers, demodulators) in detail, and then proceed to learn how these blocks combine to form superheterodyne receivers and transmitters. The generation of AM, SSB and FM transmissions is investigated. Characteristics of broadcast AM and FM are analyzed. The concept of bandwidth, as both a circuit and a system parameter is introduced. A brief introduction to antennas and radio-wave propagation concludes the course.
