This course introduces students to the theory of special event planning. The five phases of the event planning process are introduced as the foundation to the practice of event planning. Through the weekly exploration of each phase, students are introduced to the tasks and best practices event planners undertake to successfully conceptualize, develop, plan, execute, and evaluate events from start to finish. Students explore event planning theory as applied to a variety of case studies and scenarios in order to examine how event planning efforts evolve and are tailored to specific event styles including: conventions, meetings, weddings, sporting events, festivals, concerts, cultural events and major international events. Students gain a thorough understanding of the standard approach to planning and executing successful events and will be exposed to a variety of career opportunities in the event industry.
