The course will provide students with the opportunity to explain and recognize potential legal/regulatory, financial, business/strategy, reputational, market, and information technology risks within the event industry and; create, strategic plans to minimize these risks. The Canadian legal system, process of establishing liability for negligence, and legal defenses against negligence, legislation, contract law, and insurances will be covered in order to lay the foundation for some of the potential legal risks in the event industry. The course will review how to recognize, evaluate, control, and minimize the risks associated with operating hospitality business. Students will be introduced to present real-life event based negligence cases, court decisions, and the resulting judgments. As hands-on application, students will create risk management plans including operational policies and procedures for real/live event organizations.
