This course develops the necessary knowledge and skills for managing investigations involving documents and counterfeited items. Students will learn the basics of the examination and comparison of handwriting, signatures, initials and hand printing, the identification of mechanical impressions and instruments including typewriters, stamps, printers, photocopiers and fax machines, ink and paper examinations, security features in identification documents and currency, and the deciphering/examination of indented writing, alterations, erasures, obliterations, and water-soaked, charred, or shredded documents.
