This course will provide students with advanced retirement planning knowledge to facilitate analysis and evaluation of registered retirement plans, government benefit plans, registered education plans, and disability plans. Key topics include pension buyback and commutation, options upon death, and implications for self-employed individuals, owners and key employees. The course also covers advanced taxation topics in financial planning, including taxation and assessment rules for business ownership structures and trusts, tax deductions and deferral opportunities for individuals and self-employed business owners, risks of engaging in tax shelters, tax implications of being a U.S. person who is resident in Canada, tax consequences upon the death of an individual; and the suitability of an individual engaging in an estate freeze.
