This course is designed to provide a solid foundation in the theory of investments and its practical application in the real world of portfolio management. It provides the framework and context for courses in equities and fixed income. The importance of management and asset allocation decisions are highlighted. Portfolio design and performance measurement topics are preceded by an introduction to investment fund and securities market basics. The capital asset pricing model, which forms the basis of modern financial economics, is introduced. In addition, alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity, real estate, commodities and infrastructure are explored.
