The purpose of this course is to develop a basic level of competence in digital video editing with Avid Media Composer, with an emphasis on the art of storytelling. The course explores the theory and practice of various editing styles in order to gain a better understanding of how stories are constructed in the editing room. Strong emphasis is placed on post-production techniques that improve the sound and image quality of the videos. Basic principles of design and layout are applied using image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop. Digital storage, formatting standards and compression issues are also considered.
