Inclusion and Equity in the Fire Service

In this course, students explore inclusive and equitable practices in relation to the fire service. Students examine how lived experience, and society, influence personal values, and beliefs. By exploring the legal and sociological underpinnings of human rights, students develop an understanding of how inequality impacts the delivery of effective social services, and how to best optimize service delivery so it is client-centred and focused on community empowerment. Students focus on topics pertaining to inequality in various social settings, inclusion within the workplace, and the nuances involved in serving the Canadian public. The discussion will include, but not be limited to, race, gender, ethnicity, class, special needs, and sexual orientation.
