The course emphasizes essential elements of the reading and writing process for academic purposes. Students practice reading and writing skills that are valuable in their college programs and in their future studies or careers. To help students reach these goals, the course covers the following: critical reading and thinking; research skills; paraphrasing and summarizing; the writing process; critical response; persuasive writing; revision; grammar and mechanics; and documentation.
