This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who are preparing for entry into a post-secondary institution. It helps students build oral English-language competencies and study skills for academic contexts at the CEFR B1 level. Students practice communicating collaboratively with classmates from diverse backgrounds - showing interest and empathy, asking and answering simple questions, checking agreement, and formulating and responding to suggestions - while comparing options and proposing alternative approaches with guidance. Emphasis is on adapting messages to audience and medium with clarity and fluency.
