Healthcare Law and Ethics

Course Code: HCM 4002

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This course further develops the legal framework that supports the Canadian health care system that was presented in the Policy and Evaluation 1 course. It emphasizes the legal review and analysis of the law over its mere description. Moreover, the course examines critically a number of ethical issues in health care, including the controversies that surround the funding of research by commercial entities such as pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies, the production and dissemination of scientific studies, the role of interest groups, popular health fads, and assisted dying.
