This course explores the intersection of Healthcare, Information Technology, and Data Management. Through this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of Health Information Technology (HIT) systems and their critical role in healthcare delivery. The course will cover topics like health data collection, data standards and interoperability, clinical classifications and terminologies, analytics, and the use of secondary data and health databases. Novel techniques in health technology (artificial Intelligence, machine learning, telemedicine, and mHealth) will be explained. Practical training will be provided in Microsoft Access, enabling students to develop hands-on skills in data organization, database design, and information management to support informed decision-making in health settings. Students will be introduced to tools and strategies used in health technology-related projects and performance management, quality improvement, and risk management in healthcare. By the end of this course, students will be able to understand and apply key principles of health information management, health data handling, and evaluate health information systems to support safe, ethical, and effective healthcare delivery.
