This course provides students with an overview of the spatial relationship between and among the major regions of the modern world. The course will span the areas of North America; Latin American; the Caribbean; Europe; Africa; Central, East, South and Southeast Asia, Australia; and the Oceania region. Areas of emphasis include the historic, demographic, socio-economic, cultural and political developments of the selected regions as well as their interconnectedness and the impact on the people living in them. It also focuses on the relationship between human societies and their natural and built environments. The course also examines key global issues, such as the notion of good governance, accountability, reform, the promotion of democracy and human rights.
